The West Baton Rouge Council on Aging provides daily transportation to doctors, hospitals, meal sites, shopping, banking, social service agencies, etc. The Council provides transportation to anyone 60 years of age or older who is disabled and handicapped.

WEST BATON ROUGE COUNCIL ON AGING AND SENIOR CENTER

The West Baton Rouge Council on Aging and Senior Center is designed to provide services to assist older adults, age 60 and over, with remaining and living independently in their homes. These services are provided for those who reside in West Baton Rouge Parish only.

OUR SERVICES

West Baton Rouge's Council on Aging and Senior Center's primary purpose is to be a community focal point where older adults in our community can receive services and participate in activities which enhance their dignity, support their independence, and encourage their involvement in and with the community.

Congregate & Home-Delivered Meals

Buffet

Meals are served at our Senior Site (Pre-COVID).  Not only are seniors provided a meal that meets 1/3 of their daily nutritional needs, but companionship and fellowship with others are achieved. *We currently do not have a return date due to COVID*

Our Home-Delivered Meals Program currently delivers meals each day, five days a week, to at-risk senior citizens in Port Allen, Addis, Brusly and Erwinville. To be eligible for the home-delivered meals program, a person must be 60 years of age or older and have a specific health or physical need AND be homebound.  An assessment is conducted and those with the greatest need are placed on the daily meals program. All others are placed on a waiting list until an opening occurs. Call us to see if you or your loved one qualifies. 

TRANSPORTATION

The West Baton Rouge Council on Aging provides daily transportation to doctor appointments (WBR and BR), VA, hospitals, Walmart/Dollar Tree trips, banking, Post Office, etc. The Council provides transportation to anyone 60 years of age or older who is disabled and handicapped and has currently been assessed to participate in our services. Call us as soon as you know your appointment to reserve your spot.  Call us to see if you qualify. Those who utilize a wheelchair must have an ESCORT.    Please CALL to schedule your appointment!

Well-Being & Movement

West Baton Rouge Council on Aging and Senior Center understands that at some point in life we will all require some degree of health and well-being monitoring due to life circumstances or health issues (such as COVID). Our Senior Center provides just that by catering to the personal needs of each of our clients.  We also go just one step further to make everyone feel like they are truly at home. To live and thrive in a healthy environment, we also provide an atmosphere of community, which aides in health and well-being. We provide movement activities designed to support and/or improve the older persons mental and/or physical well-being, exercise/physical fitness, health screening, and FAST- Fitness and Strength Training exercises, Tai Chi and Matter of Balance classes.  Emphasizing joyful activities that work to contribute to the allover health of mind and body, we want to make you feel like you are with family!

Nutrition

West Baton Rouge Council on Aging and Senior Center provides accurate and culturally-sensitive nutrition, physical fitness and/or health information and instruction to participants and caregivers.   By providing weekly frozen meals, milk, bread and fruit to eligible clients, meals comply with the dietary guidelines of 33 ½ percent of current daily recommended dietary allowance. A donation per meal is encouraged but not required to receive the service. Please CALL to see if there is an opening in your area.

CAREGIVING SUPPORT:  Millions of Americans take care of a friend or family member with a serious health condition. Being a caregiver can be a labor of love, but it can also be stressful.  Our program facilitates and coordinates relief to family members who are the primary caregiver for their elderly loved one. This program provides personal care and respite services to reduce the stress of a caregiver.  *Virtual caregiving support educational programs coming soon.*  

HOME MAKER SERVICES- This program provides assistance with light housework for those having difficulty with Activities of Daily Living.  **CALL to get your name on the waiting list**
